West and Central Africa’s largest airline, Air Peace, has opened a new chapter in transcontinental aviation with the successful launch of its maiden direct service between Lagos and Brazil.
The landmark flight marks a breakthrough in connectivity between Africa’s largest economy and South America’s biggest economic powerhouse.
The development comes on the heels of a recent meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, where both leaders underscored aviation as a catalyst for strengthening economic, cultural, and social relations.
Welcoming the inaugural flight at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2, Lagos, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), hailed President Tinubu’s role in making the milestone possible.
“What we are seeing today is the first fruit of the diplomatic shuttle of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Brazil. Connecting Nigeria and Brazil—two continental giants—is a strategic step toward deepening economic and diplomatic relations,” Keyamo said.
He explained that the new route eliminates lengthy detours through Europe or the Middle East, cutting travel time to just seven hours across the Atlantic.
According to him, this will open new opportunities in trade, tourism, cultural exchange, and enhance access to South America and the Caribbean.
Air Peace Chairman/CEO, Dr. Allen Ifechukwu Onyema, praised President Tinubu’s visionary leadership and emphasized that the Lagos–Brazil service represents more than aviation growth it symbolizes a bridge between continents.
“This is not just a flight; it is a bridge. Connectivity is at the heart of true partnership. By opening this corridor, we are bringing Nigeria closer to Brazil and, by extension, to South America and the Caribbean,” Onyema said.
Operating three times weekly, with plans for expansion, the service firmly positions Nigeria as West and Central Africa’s gateway to South America, while giving Brazil direct access to African markets.
With this achievement, Air Peace reaffirms its leadership in Nigeria’s aviation sector and strengthens Africa’s presence on the global aviation stage.
