DGCA Rallies Stakeholders at High-Level Aviation Security Symposium

Date:

The Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, has called for increased vigilance, collaboration, and innovation in tackling the ever-evolving threats facing the aviation sector.

He made this call during his opening address at the High-Level Aviation Security Stakeholders’ Symposium, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

Welcoming a distinguished audience that included the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, chief executives of sister aviation agencies, security service heads, and international speakers, Najomo emphasised the critical importance of aviation as a global connector and economic catalyst.

However, he warned that the sector’s strategic importance also makes it a prime target for threats ranging from cyberattacks and terrorism to insider sabotage and the misuse of unmanned aerial systems.

“Aviation is the lifeline of global connectivity,” Capt. Najomo noted.

“But with the opportunities it presents come rapidly evolving threats that require robust and dynamic security measures. These can only be effective if implemented by competent and well-trained personnel.”

Reaffirming the NCAA’s commitment to international aviation standards, Najomo highlighted four core pillars for sustainable aviation security: vigilance, collaboration, technology and innovation, and strict compliance with international and national regulations.

“Security is not a destination—it’s a journey,” he declared. “One that demands the consistent efforts and cooperation of all stakeholders in the industry.”

The DGCA praised the efforts of the Aviation Security Regulation Directorate, whose team of facilitators coordinated the symposium.

He expressed confidence that the outcomes of the symposium would mark a significant step forward in Nigeria’s drive to enhance its compliance with ICAO’s Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).

“This symposium is not just an academic exercise. It is a strategic platform to generate real, actionable solutions and reinforce our collective resilience,” he stated, urging all participants to make the most of the discussions and networking opportunities.

In his closing remarks, Najomo underscored the shared responsibility of ensuring aviation safety and security, expressing optimism that the symposium would foster lasting collaboration and innovation.

The theme of the symposium and the selection of its topics were described as “deliberate and strategic” in addressing Nigeria’s security priorities in aviation.”
