Air Peace Empowers Abia Women Through Aviation

Date:

In a powerful demonstration of corporate social responsibility, Air Peace, the largest carrier in West and Central Africa, has empowered women in Umuerim Umukparo, Mbala community, Abia State, through a unique aviation-centered initiative aimed at inspiring inclusion and expanding access to air travel.

As part of its CSR framework—which prioritizes environment, social welfare, education, youth, and women empowerment—the airline visited the rural community and presented six women with complimentary return economy tickets to travel to any destination within Nigeria.

The gesture is intended to encourage more women to explore aviation, not just as passengers but as future pilots, engineers, cabin crew, and airline leaders.

Addressing the community, the Head of Corporate Communications at Air Peace, Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, emphasised the company’s dedication to gender inclusion and community transformation.

“Air Peace is here in Mbala not just to offer flights, but to empower women and showcase the transformative potential of aviation,” he said. “Today, someone experiences their first flight; tomorrow, they could be leading in aviation. That is the kind of impact we want to make.”

Ndiulo further highlighted that women play a critical role in Air Peace’s leadership, with the Vice Chairman, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief of Administration and Finance all being women. “This initiative is a reflection of what we stand for—unlocking opportunities, regardless of background,” he added.

The visit was also a celebration of Miss Gold Chinyere Ike, the first woman from Umuerim Umukparo to travel by air.

Her inspiring journey caught the attention of the airline, prompting the Corporate Communications team to journey to the community to honor her.

The arrival of the Air Peace delegation was met with drums, dancing, and overwhelming joy from residents who lined the streets to welcome them.

Deeply moved, Chinyere said, “I didn’t know what to expect. That you people came to my village just because of me… I’m grateful. The community is so happy.”

Representing Chairman/CEO Dr. Allen Onyema, the delegation presented Chinyere with two complimentary return tickets to any domestic destination and branded souvenirs as a token of recognition.

Her story, which has gone viral in recent weeks, represents more than a personal milestone, it symbolizes the dreams and resilience of many rural Nigerians who often see aviation as a distant reality.

“Miss Ike’s journey embodies what Air Peace stands for,” said Dr. Ndiulo. “Flying isn’t just about distance. It’s about dignity, access, and who you become when your dreams take flight.”

Air Peace’s visit to Mbala underscores its commitment to extending the benefits of aviation to Nigeria’s remotest communities and ensuring that no one is left behind in the journey toward national connectivity and inclusion.
