The Chairman of the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC), Mr. Suleiman Idris, has lauded the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for organizing a specialised training workshop on aviation and airport reporting.
The event, hosted at the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS), brought together aviation journalists to enhance their skills in reporting the sector’s complexities.
Speaking during the opening session, Idris expressed gratitude to FAAN’s Managing Director, Chief Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, for her support in approving and sponsoring the initiative.
He also acknowledged the contributions of Mr. Gbenga from FAAN’s MD’s office, the CIAPS faculty, and LAAC’s Training Committee for their roles in making the program a reality.
“This training is another testament to our commitment to empowering aviation journalists. The lessons learned here will significantly enhance our ability to provide analytical and comprehensive coverage of Nigeria’s aviation industry,” he said.
Idris highlighted LAAC’s dedication to continuous learning, noting previous training collaborations with institutions like the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria and the International Aviation College (IAC) in Ilorin.
He emphasised that the knowledge gained from such initiatives has strengthened LAAC members’ reporting skills, contributing to the sector’s growth.
“Training is a continuous phenomenon. The knowledge we gain here will help us adapt to technological advancements and better disseminate aviation information in areas such as safety, security, economics, and regulation,” he added.
As the year draws to a close, the chairman called on aviation stakeholders and authorities to demonstrate greater commitment to the industry’s overall development.
He expressed optimism about Nigeria’s aviation progress in 2025 and urged stakeholders to prioritize collaboration and innovation.
The workshop marked LAAC’s first collaboration with CIAPS, a partnership he hopes will grow into a long-term relationship.
He commended the institute for providing a conducive learning environment and extended an invitation for CIAPS to join the list of sponsors for LAAC’s annual conference held every July.
Addressing his colleagues, Idris encouraged them to maximize the training opportunity and remain focused on professional development.
“This program will empower us to play our role as the fourth estate of the realm more effectively. Let us make the most of this opportunity to enhance our contributions to the aviation industry,” he concluded.
The workshop underscores the importance of equipping aviation journalists with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the evolving dynamics of the sector while fostering partnerships that support its development.
