Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, operators of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2), has introduced specialized autism awareness training for its frontline staff as part of efforts to improve travel experiences for passengers with special needs.
The training, delivered by Cradle Lounge Special Needs Initiative and led by autism expert Solape Azazi, focused on helping staff recognize signs of sensory overload, communicate effectively with autistic passengers, and provide compassionate assistance to families and caregivers.
The statement was signed by Mrs. Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, Head, Corporate Communications, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL).
According to BASL, the initiative reflects its commitment to creating a welcoming and accessible airport environment where every traveller can move with comfort, confidence, and dignity.
Acting Chief Operating Officer Kola Bamigboye said airports can be overwhelming environments for individuals on the autism spectrum and stressed that the training would help staff respond with professionalism and empathy.
Human Resources Head Feyikemi Fadeyibi added that continuous workforce development is key to delivering high-quality customer service, noting that empathy and patience are core values of the organization.
Trainer Solape Azazi explained that autism is often invisible and requires awareness of behavioural cues indicating distress, especially in crowded and noisy airport settings.
She said the training emphasized empathy-driven engagement, de-escalation techniques, and collaboration with caregivers.
BASL noted that the programme is part of its broader strategy to enhance operational standards and set new benchmarks in inclusive and accessible aviation services in Nigeria.
