Air Peace, West and Central Africa’s largest airline, marked a major milestone with the arrival of a dry-leased Boeing 737-700 NG from AerCap, the world’s largest aircraft leasing company.
This marks Nigeria’s first dry lease in nearly a decade, signaling renewed global confidence in the nation’s aviation sector.
The aircraft induction ceremony at the Zulu Terminal Complex, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, attracted aviation regulators, government officials, and financial partners, including the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN; Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo; and executives from Fidelity Bank.
Boeing’s Sales Director for Africa, Moore Ibekwe Jr, described the acquisition as “a landmark achievement for Nigeria” and highlighted the collaborative effort between Boeing, AerCap, the NCAA, and the Ministry of Aviation as a driver for regional connectivity and job creation.
AerCap’s Vice President of Leasing, Gad Wavomba, applauded Air Peace’s perseverance throughout the lease process, noting that government support and bilateral cooperation were instrumental.
Air Peace Chairman, Dr. Allen Ifechukwu Onyema, expressed gratitude to all partners and the government for creating an enabling environment.
He reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to safety, operational excellence, and expansion of its fleet to boost intra-African connectivity.
Hon. Festus Keyamo, SAN, described the milestone as a turning point in restoring investor confidence in Nigerian aviation.
He outlined reforms such as the IDERA framework, plans to rebuild Lagos International Airport, and the establishment of a Nigerian Aircraft Leasing Company to support indigenous airlines in acquiring modern fleets.
