The Chief Executive Officer of Landover Company and Managing Director of Overland Airways, Capt. Edward Boyo, has been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Doctor of Business Administration, Honoris Causa) by Bowen University, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s aviation industry and exemplary leadership spanning several decades.
The conferment took place during the University’s 20th Convocation Ceremony, held at the Bowen University Auditorium, Iwo, Osun State, on November 1, 2025.
The colourful event was graced by dignitaries from across the country, including the Oluwo of Iwo Land, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, as well as senior executives from Landover Company and Overland Airways.
In presenting the award, Bowen University described Capt. Boyo as a visionary leader “whose contributions to the aviation sector continue to inspire excellence, innovation, and leadership.” Under his stewardship, Overland Airways has become one of Nigeria’s leading airlines, renowned for reliability, safety, and service quality.
In his acceptance speech, Capt. Boyo expressed gratitude to the University for the honour, describing it as a call to greater service.
“I am deeply delighted to receive this recognition and wish to extend my gratitude to the leadership of Bowen University for this honour,” he said.
“This award will further motivate me to continue contributing to Nigeria’s air transport industry and the nation’s economy. I will remain a worthy ambassador of this great institution and continue investing in people and systems to strengthen our aviation sector.”
As part of the convocation activities, Capt. Boyo demonstrated his commitment to educational excellence by rewarding the overall best graduating student, Miss Lotechukwu Ikpo of the Economics Department, who achieved a perfect 5.00 CGPA, with a cash prize and a scholarship for her Master’s Degree programme.

Boyo, a seasoned pilot and respected industry leader, has made far-reaching contributions to aviation policy and development across Africa.
He currently serves as Ambassador for West Africa for the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), a flagship initiative of the African Union aimed at liberalizing air transport across the continent.
Through Overland Airways and Landover Company—both headquartered in Lagos—Capt. Boyo has played a pivotal role in expanding air connectivity to underserved regions in Nigeria and West Africa, promoting economic growth and regional integration.
Bowen University’s recognition of Capt. Boyo underscores his enduring impact on the aviation sector, his commitment to human capital development, and his exemplary pursuit of excellence in service to the nation and the continent.
