NCAA Certifies Starwing Aviation for Drone Operations

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has officially certified Starwing Aviation Limited as a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) operator, a move seen as a significant boost to Nigeria’s ambitions to become a drone innovation hub in Africa.

The certification, presented by the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, on June 3, 2025, at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja, followed a thorough and rigorous process.

Capt. Najomo described the issuance of the RPAS Operations Certificate (ROC) as a milestone in Nigeria’s aviation sector, urging Starwing Aviation to prioritize compliance and uphold the high standards that earned them the certification.

Speaking during the event, the Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Engr. Godwin Balang, emphasised the detailed safety protocols and certification benchmarks that were met, including security measures and bird strike prevention crucial components of operational safety.

Also present was Dr. Harold Demuren, who lauded the NCAA for advancing Nigeria’s role in Africa’s emerging drone economy.

He expressed confidence that Starwing Aviation would maintain full regulatory compliance in its operations.

In his remarks, Starwing Managing Director, Mr. Kunmi Demuren, thanked the NCAA leadership and licensing team for their support and guidance throughout the certification process.
