NIGAV King and Queen Visit MMA2, Back Zero Tolerance for Unruly Passengers

Date:

Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), recently welcomed the reigning NIGAV King and Queen aviation professionals Henry Chika and Aisha Yakub on a courtesy visit aimed at promoting professionalism and reinforcing zero tolerance for unruly behavior within airport premises.

The visit, which follows their emergence as winners of the Nigerian Aviation (NIGAV) Awards pageant held during the annual Minister’s Dinner, marked a significant moment for the terminal widely known for its passenger-centric service and operational excellence.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications at BASL, Mrs. Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, the duo’s presence underscored the importance of fostering a respectful and collaborative environment among aviation stakeholders.

Henry Chika, a purser with ValuJet Airlines, and Aisha Yakub, a flight attendant with XEjet, were received with warm congratulations from the Acting Chief Operating Officer of BASL, Mr. Remi Jibodu.

“Their visit is more than ceremonial,” Jibodu said. “It symbolises the shared values that keep our industry strong professionalism, safety, and mutual respect.”

He further highlighted the strategic partnership between BASL and both ValuJet and XEjet, noting that their participation in MMA2’s Premium Departure Concierge Service is a testament to their commitment to excellence.

Speaking during the visit, the convener of the NIGAV Awards and initiator of the King and Queen of the Air platform, Mr. Fortune Idu, commended BASL for supporting initiatives that empower aviation professionals and elevate industry standards.

“This platform was designed to spotlight cabin crew members and give them a voice on issues that affect the industry. We’re thrilled to see how it’s creating impact and fostering unity,” Idu said.

A key part of the visit involved a roundtable discussion with BASL executives, focusing on the growing trend of unruly passenger behavior and the urgent need for coordinated advocacy.

The King and Queen echoed BASL’s longstanding Zero Tolerance for Violence policy, which firmly prohibits any form of aggression or vandalism within the terminal.

Jibodu emphasised the company’s unwavering stance, stating, “Passengers must express grievances through lawful avenues, in line with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations. We will not hesitate to prosecute offenders or support their placement on ‘no-fly’ lists.”

The visit was both symbolic and timely, reminding all travelers that while operational hiccups can occur, civility must remain the standard.

The aviation industry, through initiatives like the NIGAV King and Queen of the Air, is renewing its commitment to creating a safe and dignified flying experience for all.

“The King and Queen will serve as vocal ambassadors for this cause, promoting a culture of respect that strengthens the industry and protects all who work and travel within it,” Idu concluded.
