Engr. Akin Olateru Honored with ATQ Lifetime Achievement Award 2024

Former Director General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Engr. Akin Olateru, has been honored with the prestigious ATQ Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to aviation safety.

The award was presented at the 4th Air Transport Quarterly (ATQ) Magazine Industry Awards held in Lagos, where Olateru was celebrated alongside other distinguished industry leaders.

According to Supo Atobatele, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of ATQ, the award is a tribute to Olateru’s visionary leadership and impact on transportation safety.

“Engr. Olateru’s transformation of the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) into the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is a landmark achievement,” Atobatele noted.

“His efforts have expanded the agency’s scope beyond aviation to include maritime, rail, and road transportation safety investigations, making it a global model for safety agencies.”

Under Olateru’s leadership, the NSIB adopted cutting-edge technology and international best practices, enhancing the nation’s safety investigation framework.

The ATQ Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes his enduring legacy and dedication to public safety, ensuring that aviation and other transportation modes continue to prioritise safety as a fundamental standard.
