FAAN Prioritizes Safety, Infrastructure in 2025 Policy Direction

Date:

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing safety and infrastructure across the country’s airports as part of its 2025 policy direction.

Managing Director Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku disclosed this during an inspection of facilities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, alongside FAAN Board Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Speaking with aviation journalists, Mrs. Kuku emphasised that the agency is prioritizing runway and airside safety, in close collaboration with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

“For 2025, our primary focus remains safety and security. Last year, we introduced an enhanced safety policy, and this year, we are ensuring its full implementation. Additionally, we are advancing the recertification of Kano and Port Harcourt airports, following the successful recertification of two airports last year,” she stated.

In addition to safety measures, FAAN is investing in security infrastructure, including the deployment of advanced explosive detection devices at airports nationwide.

“We recently commenced the process of replacing our security equipment to enhance passenger safety. These measures are part of a broader effort to create a secure and efficient airport environment,” Mrs. Kuku explained.

She also highlighted ongoing terminal rehabilitation projects in Lagos, Abuja, and other major airports, aimed at improving passenger experience.

“We are implementing large-scale infrastructure upgrades, with a focus on passenger convenience. Special attention is being given to facilities for individuals with disabilities, as well as a complete revamp of VIP lounges,” she added.

“We understand that there is still work to be done, but we are seeing positive feedback from passengers. Our goal is to ensure that both primary and secondary airports reflect world-class standards in terms of safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort,” she said.

With these initiatives, FAAN aims to strengthen operational efficiency and maintain international aviation standards across all Nigerian airports in 2025.
