FAAN Board Chairman Calls for Institutional Synergy and Strategic Development

Date:

The Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Alhaji Abdullah Ganduje, has emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation among aviation agencies to achieve the Federal Government’s objectives. During his official visit to FAAN, he highlighted the importance of synergy, coordination, and personal commitment in driving the agency’s success.

While inspecting and touring the facilities at Lagos Airport, Ganduje stressed the necessity of inter-agency collaboration, warning that institutional rivalry could hinder FAAN’s progress.

He encouraged FAAN’s Managing Director Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku and other agency heads to work together to fulfill the overarching vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

“Wherever multiple institutions are involved in executing a function, rivalry can arise if not carefully managed. If one institution fails to deliver on its responsibilities, the overall objective is compromised. Therefore, I urge all MDs of aviation agencies to work together for seamless operations,” he stated.

The FAAN Board Chairman underscored the importance of an effective organizational structure, emphasizing that no directorate can succeed in isolation. He called for inter-directorate cooperation, streamlined communication, and a unified approach to operational efficiency.

“Organizational structure is vital. No directorate can succeed without collaboration from others. There should be seamless synergy and coordination to ensure efficiency,” he remarked.

Ganduje also encouraged FAAN staff to adopt a positive work attitude, stating that personal motivation is crucial for organizational success. He urged employees to prioritize the agency’s growth beyond financial incentives, emphasizing that success is driven by commitment and purpose.

“The difference between success and failure is motive. What is your individual motive toward the growth of the organization? Beyond remuneration and external motivation, self-motivation is essential for FAAN’s progress,” he asserted.

The Chairman highlighted the importance of adhering to timelines in budget implementation to prevent unnecessary delays, inflation, and project abandonment. He urged FAAN’s leadership to monitor project execution closely and avoid setbacks such as deterioration and vandalism.

“In budget implementation, timelines are crucial. Delays lead to inflation, deterioration, and vandalism, ultimately fostering apathy. Contracts must have clear deadlines to avoid these challenges,” he advised.

While acknowledging that challenges are inevitable, he stressed the importance of proactive problem-solving to prevent an accumulation of unresolved issues. He urged FAAN’s leadership to address existing issues promptly to avoid compounding problems in the future.

“Challenges are natural, some are man-made, but they are part of life. The key is to reduce them rather than allow them to accumulate. If issues are not resolved, they will pile up,” he warned.

Following an inspection of FAAN’s facilities, equipment, and infrastructure, Ganduje expressed satisfaction with the agency’s progress. He commended the leadership for its dedication and motivation.

“My impression is that FAAN is blessed with a competent Managing Director and directors. I have seen signs of motivation, seriousness, and achievement. They have laid a strong foundation, and I encourage them to build on this progress,” he stated.

While acknowledging challenges such as abandoned projects from previous administrations and outdated equipment, he lauded FAAN’s efforts in devising solutions. He also recognized financial constraints but expressed confidence in the agency’s ability to optimize resources and improve efficiency.

Looking ahead, the Chairman requested a written summary from all directorates to better understand their functions and expectations, enabling him to provide strategic guidance.

With a strong commitment to fostering synergy, efficient project execution, and operational excellence, Ganduje reaffirmed the FAAN Board’s dedication to supporting the agency in achieving world-class aviation standards in Nigeria.
