NCAA Assures Safer Skies with Enhanced Surveillance

Date:

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of the nation’s airspace through enhanced safety surveillance measures.

Speaking during the Authority’s annual New Year prayer session held at its corporate headquarters in Abuja, Acting Director-General, Capt. Chris Najomo, emphasised that the Nigerian airspace is now safer than ever.

The event, held every January 2nd , marked not only the start of the year but also the commencement of activities celebrating NCAA’s 25th anniversary.

Capt. Najomo highlighted the strides made under the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Aviation and the “Renewed Hope” agenda of the current administration. These efforts, he said, have empowered the NCAA to deliver on its mandate effectively.

“We have enhanced safety surveillance, and this has made the airspace safer,” Najomo said. He reaffirmed the Authority’s resolve to ensure airlines comply with all regulations, citing recent enforcement actions against five airlines that had failed to process ticket refunds. “We sanctioned them, and they have agreed to pay on time. This year, 2025, we hope to see even better compliance and performance across the sector,” he added.

He also addressed personal attacks and fabricated stories targeting him, stating that such distractions would not deter him from meeting his core job responsibilities. “My focus is on delivering results. My confirmation is in the hands of Mr. President, and I trust that he will act at the right time,” he stated.

On staff welfare and operational efficiency,  the DG noted that the Authority has improved workplace conditions and invested in digital solutions to enhance service delivery. Key developments include the establishment of a flight data center and the deployment of digital platforms like the CPD and DATR portals to streamline business operations.

The highlight of the event was the hoisting of the NCAA @25 flag and the unveiling of a commemorative monument by Capt. Najomo, alongside his management team and staff. The celebration underscores the Authority’s legacy of excellence and its commitment to maintaining global aviation standards in Nigeria.

With its focus on safety, compliance, and digital transformation, the NCAA continues to set benchmarks for the aviation industry, ensuring safer and more efficient air travel for all.
