United Nigeria Airlines has announced a regrettable delay in its Lagos-Asaba flight scheduled for 6:30 am on Thursday, December 19th, due to an incident involving an unruly passenger.
The airline revealed that the passenger physically assaulted a crew member after all passengers had boarded and the aircraft doors were securely shut.
In a statement issued by the airline’s management, it was confirmed that the commotion lasted for an extended period, prompting the aircraft to be grounded in line with international aviation safety protocols. This caused a significant delay and is expected to affect other flights across the airline’s network, potentially resulting in further disruptions.
“We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers and sincerely apologize for the disruptions,” the statement read. “For safety reasons and in adherence to global aviation standards, we could not proceed with the flight under such circumstances.”
United Nigeria Airlines stressed that physical or verbal assault against crew members is a grave violation of international aviation laws. Such behavior endangers the safety and security of everyone on board and disrupts the travel plans of fellow passengers.
The airline urged passengers to use proper channels, such as customer service hotlines or online feedback platforms, to address grievances. “This ensures that concerns are handled efficiently and respectfully without compromising the safety and comfort of other passengers,” the airline stated.
Reiterating its unwavering commitment to safety, United Nigeria Airlines assured passengers of its dedication to maintaining the highest safety standards. “Safety is not just a priority but the foundation of our operations. We take all necessary measures to ensure the well-being of our passengers and crew.”
The airline expressed its gratitude for passengers’ understanding and patience during the disruption, reaffirming its commitment to delivering reliable and secure travel experiences.
