The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has reached historic milestones, underscoring its commitment to excellence in airspace management.
In a landmark ceremony held in Abuja, the agency presented the prestigious ISO 9001 certification and the SERVICOM Award of Excellence for Quality Service Delivery to the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN.
The Managing Director of NAMA, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, led a delegation of top management staff to present the ISO 9001 certification, marking a significant achievement in compliance with global Quality Management System standards.
The certification is a culmination of an eight-year reform process that began in 2016 following an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) audit, which identified critical gaps in Nigeria’s airspace management.
“This certification is a testament to our commitment to safety, efficiency, and operational excellence,” said Engr. Umar. The ISO 9001 recognition applies to all five major airports in Nigeria and highlights NAMA’s focus on maintaining Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) infrastructure at international standards.
Minister Keyamo praised the achievement, describing it as a perfect end-of-year gift and a validation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He commended NAMA’s leadership and staff for their relentless dedication to improving the country’s aviation sector, noting that the certification positions Nigeria as a global leader in airspace management.
In addition to the ISO 9001 certification, NAMA received the SERVICOM Award of Excellence for Quality Service Delivery from the SERVICOM Presidency, Nigeria. This marks the first time NAMA has been honored with the award since establishing its SERVICOM department in 2004.
Accepting the award on behalf of the agency, Keyamo highlighted NAMA’s critical role in bridging the gap between government services and citizens through exceptional service delivery.
“This recognition reinforces NAMA’s pivotal role in advancing Nigeria’s aviation sector,” Keyamo stated. “The leadership and staff have set a benchmark for excellence in service delivery, ensuring the safety and efficiency of Nigeria’s airspace.”
Umar, accompanied by key officials including Director of Finance and Accounts, Ndubuisi Lotenna Nmoneme; Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Dr. Abdullahi Musa; and Senior Special Adviser, Mr. Haske Jibrin, expressed gratitude for the accolades. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency.
These dual milestones signify NAMA’s transformative journey, positioning Nigeria’s aviation sector for continued growth and global recognition. The agency’s achievements were hailed as a testament to its relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence, with assurances of continued government support to enhance the country’s aviation ecosystem further.
