The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, has shown strong support for Nigeria’s aviation and transport sector by attending the 2024 International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Congress in Marrakesh, Morocco. His presence at the global event highlights the Federal Government’s recognition of the critical role transport workers play in stabilizing the aviation sector and the broader economy.

The ITF Congress, one of the largest international gatherings of transport unions, brings together over 150 countries to address key issues, share best practices, and formulate strategies to advance workers’ rights across various transport sectors.

Representing Nigeria’s aviation industry at the event was the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), the country’s largest and most prominent aviation union, along with other Nigerian transport unions.

In a statement issued by Mr. Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Honourable Minister, Keyamo’s attendance as a special guest underscores the government’s commitment to fostering strong collaboration with aviation workers. His participation also signifies the Federal Government’s dedication to addressing critical challenges such as workers’ welfare, infrastructural improvements, and policy reforms that support the growth of the transport sector.

Speaking on the importance of the Congress, Keyamo praised the aviation workforce for its unwavering commitment to the industry, noting that their efforts are the backbone of the sector’s stability and continuous development. “The success of our aviation industry is deeply rooted in the dedication and resilience of our workers. It is imperative that we support and engage with them as partners in our mission to drive the sector forward. My presence here in Marrakesh is a testament to that commitment,” said Keyamo.

The Minister’s engagement at the ITF Congress comes at a time when the Nigerian aviation industry is undergoing transformative changes. His participation demonstrates the government’s intent to strengthen the partnership between industry stakeholders, unions, and the government, ensuring that Nigeria’s aviation workers benefit from improved working conditions and the country’s evolving aviation landscape.

Aside from lending his support to NUATE and other transport unions, Minister Keyamo seized the opportunity to meet with global aviation leaders and experts at the event. These interactions focused on sharing Nigeria’s vision for a more innovative and sustainable aviation ecosystem, with an emphasis on aligning the country’s policies with international standards.

Keyamo reiterated the Ministry’s resolve to enhance workers’ rights, streamline aviation operations, and ensure the sector’s growth is in line with global benchmarks.

As the 2024 ITF Congress unfolds, Minister Keyamo’s active involvement underscores Nigeria’s leadership in the global aviation industry and its commitment to improving workers’ welfare and fostering sector development.

The congress will continue to explore critical issues in the transport industry, and Nigeria’s participation is expected to yield significant benefits for the country’s aviation workforce and the sector as a whole.
