In a bid to enhance safety, efficiency, and awareness in airport ground operations, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) is set to launch a Surface Movement Radar (SMR) sensitization programme. The event will take place on October 4, 2024, at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) conference hall in Lagos.
This specialized programme aims to boost the knowledge and operational capabilities of airport personnel and aviation professionals in the use and management of surface movement radars. SMRs play a critical role in ensuring safe and efficient ground operations, particularly in low-visibility conditions and during periods of high traffic at airports.
The sensitization programme will cover fundamental principles of SMR technology, hands-on training with the latest systems, and the integration of SMR with other airport surveillance tools. Participants will also explore real-world applications and case studies to illustrate the importance of effective SMR usage.
NAMA has handpicked subject matter experts, both local and international, to lead the comprehensive training. The sessions will combine theoretical learning with practical skills, equipping attendees to maximize the benefits of SMR technology in enhancing ground movement efficiency and safety.
By improving understanding and operational competence in surface movement radar technology, NAMA aims to significantly improve ground operations at airports across Nigeria, ensuring safer and more efficient airspace management.
