SAHCO Makes History with Global Cybersecurity Certification

Date:

Skyway Aviation Handling Company PLC (SAHCO) has made history by becoming the only aviation ground handling company in Nigeria and one of the few in Africa to secure the prestigious ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification.

The globally recognised certification confirms that SAHCO has put in place a comprehensive framework to protect sensitive data, manage cybersecurity risks, and ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information across its operations.

In a statement, SAHCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Adetola Vanessa Uansohia, explained that the certification is particularly important in the aviation industry, where digital systems are central to flight operations, cargo handling, passenger services, and regulatory communications.

“As aviation becomes more interconnected and technology-driven, information security is no longer optional. This certification demonstrates SAHCO’s industry-leading capacity to manage cyber risks and maintain business continuity in the face of evolving threats,” she said.

Executive Director Dr. Babatunde Afolabi said the company views information security as a collective responsibility across all departments.

He noted that SAHCO has implemented structured training programmes, strict security policies, and continuous monitoring systems to build a strong security culture.

“Information security is not just an IT issue. Every employee plays a role in protecting our systems and customer data. We have built a proactive security culture that supports safe, secure, and reliable aviation operations,” Afolabi said.

The ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification covers SAHCO’s core operational areas, including cargo handling, customer information management, operational systems, and corporate support services.

The process involved extensive risk assessments, security control deployment, incident response planning, and business continuity measures aligned with global best practices.

SAHCO already holds several international and industry certifications such as ISAGO, RA3, EMS, QMS, SMS, ISO and SON, highlighting its strong compliance and safety credentials.

With this milestone, SAHCO joins an elite group of aviation ground handling companies worldwide operating under certified information security standards.

The company said the certification reinforces its commitment to digital transformation, cybersecurity investment, and service excellence, while setting a new benchmark for the aviation ground handling sector in Nigeria and across Africa.
