FAAN Enters Global League with Dual ISO Certifications

Date:

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing reform drive, earning two prestigious international certifications that signal a new era for Nigeria’s airports.

FAAN has been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System certifications, achievements that place the Authority among elite airport operators worldwide.

The certificates were presented to the Managing Director and Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, at FAAN’s headquarters in Lagos.

ISO 9001:2015 recognises organisations with strong systems for delivering consistent, high-quality services and meeting customer expectations, while ISO 14001:2015 confirms a structured and responsible approach to environmental management, including pollution control, waste reduction, and sustainability.

Issued by MSECB, Canada, the dual certifications confirm that FAAN now operates in line with internationally accepted standards for both service delivery and environmental responsibility—an important signal to global airlines, investors, and aviation regulators.

The achievement is being hailed as a defining moment under the leadership of Mrs. Kuku, whose administration has prioritised accountability, institutional reform, and human capacity development. Since assuming office, she has driven a culture of process discipline and global benchmarking, earning commendation from staff and industry stakeholders alike.

In December 2025, Mrs. Kuku marked two years as FAAN’s chief executive, a milestone accompanied by widespread recognition of her reform agenda. Observers say the ISO certifications are the clearest evidence yet of the Authority’s transformation.

Industry stakeholders explain that the success followed the implementation of an Integrated Management System, which streamlined operations, strengthened internal controls, and entrenched continuous improvement across FAAN. The result, they say, is a more proactive, transparent, and standards-driven organisation.

Beyond institutional prestige, the certifications are expected to deliver tangible benefits. ISO 9001:2015 supports improved service quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction, while ISO 14001:2015 reinforces FAAN’s commitment to environmentally responsible airport operations.

Together, they boost confidence in Nigeria’s aviation sector and strengthen the country’s position in an increasingly competitive global air transport market.

As FAAN moves forward, stakeholders will be watching how the Authority sustains and deepens these gains through ongoing audits, skills development, environmental innovation, and customer-focused reforms. With current leadership at the helm, many believe the standards achieved are only the beginning of a broader transformation.
