Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), has issued a stern warning to travelers after a passenger allegedly assaulted airline crew and security personnel during a flight arrival on August 10, 2025.
The incident, which occurred around 2:30 pm, involved Ms. Comfort Emmanson, who had just arrived aboard Ibom Air flight QI 513 from Uyo.
According to BASL, she refused to comply with safety protocols by ignoring instructions to switch off her mobile phone during landing, an action that sparked a confrontation and escalated into physical attacks.
Victims of the assault included Ibom Air cabin crew member Ms. Juliana Edward, Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers from BASL and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), as well as other security personnel involved in escorting her for questioning.
The passenger was detained and handed over to FAAN AVSEC for further investigation, with the Nigerian Police Airport Command also notified.
In a press release signed by BASL’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, and made available to journalists on Monday, the company reiterated that violent and disruptive conduct will not be tolerated.
“We operate under a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding physical assault or threats against airline crew members, violence toward airport security personnel, non-compliance with aviation safety regulations, and disruptive behavior that compromises the safety and security of passengers and staff,” Mrs. Yinka-Olawuyi stated.
She stressed that offenders risk immediate intervention by trained security personnel, detention, prosecution under Nigerian aviation laws, placement on airline or airport restriction lists, and possible civil liability for any damages caused.
BASL urged all travelers to follow crew instructions, treat airline and airport staff with courtesy, and promptly report any concerning behavior to security officials. The company reminded the public that aviation safety rules exist to protect passengers, staff, and the integrity of operations.
“We remain committed to delivering world-class aviation services while maintaining the highest safety and security standards at MMA2,” Yinka-Olawuyi added.
