The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) is set to carry out its annual Search and Rescue (SAR) Simulation Exercise at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
Ahead of the exercise, a pre-event debriefing was held at the airport today, bringing together key stakeholders from Nigeria’s aviation and emergency response sectors.
The session served as a strategic forum for participating agencies to review their preparedness levels and finalize coordination plans for the simulation.
Stakeholders present at the debriefing included representatives from NAMA, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Nigerian Air Force, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Others in attendance were officials from the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Medical Centre Jabi, SAHCO, community leaders, and private aviation operators such as Air Peace and Max Air.
The representatives reaffirmed their collective commitment to ensuring a prompt, well-coordinated, and efficient response to any potential airspace emergencies in the country.
The SAR simulation exercise, an annual safety tradition in the Nigerian aviation sector, is designed to assess operational readiness, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and enhance real-time decision-making in the event of actual aviation incidents or accidents.
NAMA emphasised that the exercise plays a vital role in reinforcing the nation’s aviation safety framework and ensuring compliance with international standards for search and rescue operations.
