Keyamo Welcomes Super Falcons as Tinubu Confers National Honours

The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, on Tuesday received the triumphant Super Falcons at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, following their return from Morocco where they clinched a record-extending 10th CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.

Accompanied by top directors from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Minister led a colourful reception in honour of the team’s historic achievement. The airport was aglow with traditional performances, cheers from excited fans, and the presentation of souvenirs to the continental champions.

According to a press statement released by the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Tunde Moshood, the Minister described the Super Falcons’ triumph as “a victory for the girl-child, a national pride, and a symbol of Nigeria’s unbreakable spirit.”

He said the team’s performance exemplified unity, determination, and the resilient Nigerian spirit that continues to shine on the global stage.

Following their reception at the airport, the Super Falcons were conveyed in a ceremonial motorcade to the Presidential Villa, where they were received by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

At the Villa, President Tinubu conferred National Honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each team member in recognition of their outstanding achievement.

In addition, the President announced a cash reward of $1 million for the team and handed over keys to brand-new three-bedroom apartments at the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Abuja.

President Tinubu praised the players for bringing glory to the nation and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to encouraging gender equality, investing in youth development, and recognising excellence across all sectors.

The Honourable Minister, through the statement by his media aide, also reiterated the aviation sector’s continued support for national pride and sporting excellence.

He pledged collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure smoother and more efficient travel experiences for Nigerian athletes participating in international competitions.

The Super Falcons’ latest victory in Morocco not only reinforces Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football but also continues to serve as an inspiration for millions of young girls across the continent who aspire to greatness.
