In a major step toward transforming its workforce and aligning operations with global standards, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ATOM Training Services, a globally recognised aviation training provider headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The partnership underscores FAAN’s renewed commitment to human capital development, a core pillar of the six-point agenda unveiled by its Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku.
The MoU aims to equip FAAN personnel, particularly those in safety-critical roles with industry-specific, ICAO-compliant training that meets international standards.
The agreement was formally signed on July 22, 2025, at ATOM’s Dubai facility. FAAN’s Director of Human Resources and Administration, Dr. Luqman Emiola Olatunbosun, led the Nigerian delegation, while Mr. Abdulla Almemari, General and Accountable Manager of ATOM Training Services, represented the UAE-based institution.
The visit featured a comprehensive tour of ATOM’s training infrastructure and in-depth discussions on curriculum alignment, competency frameworks, and future collaboration plans.
The signing marks the culmination of several months of strategic dialogue and planning between both organisations.
ATOM Training Services brings a solid reputation for delivering cutting-edge aviation training solutions across key areas including air traffic management, regulatory compliance, safety oversight, and emergency response.
The collaboration will allow FAAN to tap into this expertise, fostering a more skilled, efficient, and compliant workforce.
“This partnership is a direct response to our administration’s pledge to prioritise capacity development,” Mrs. Kuku stated. “As I said in my inaugural address, every institution is only as strong as the human resources behind it. By working with national and international bodies, we aim to build institutional strength, elevate Nigeria’s image in global aviation, and enhance operational excellence across our airports.”
Since taking office on December 18, 2023, Mrs. Kuku has spearheaded several training initiatives, resulting in the upskilling and certification of over 3,000 FAAN staff within just seven months.
The partnership with ATOM now forms a core component of FAAN’s long-term strategic training plan, designed to embed global best practices across the Authority’s operations.
Officials say the MoU reflects not just a shared commitment to professional development, but a wider drive to position FAAN as a forward-looking, performance-driven institution capable of competing on the global aviation stage.
Through this partnership, FAAN is set to strengthen its workforce, improve service delivery, and raise the bar in Nigeria’s airport operations—further advancing the country’s aviation sector and reaffirming its relevance in the global air transport ecosystem.
