Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Two (MMA2), Lagos, has continued to garner praise from stakeholders in the aviation industry following the success of its recently concluded first phase of media tours.
The tours, which offered insights into BASL’s operations, achievements, and future plans, are set to continue in the new year, with the management promising even greater innovations.
The media tour kicked off with a visit to the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents Secretariat and included prominent media houses such as The Guardian, The PUNCH, Vanguard, New Telegraph, The Nation, and Business Day.
According to a statement by Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, Head of Corporate Communications at BASL, the tours provided an opportunity for the media to engage with the company’s leadership and understand the strategies that have sustained MMA2 as Nigeria’s first privately managed airport terminal for over 17 years.
During the visits, BASL’s Acting Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Remi Jibodu, highlighted key innovations at MMA2, including the establishment of an Equipment Management Department to maintain its state-of-the-art facilities, the acquisition of a digital cold room for perishable cargoes, and an enhanced surveillance system to curb theft and stowaways.
The digital cold room, a first for any domestic airport in Nigeria, addresses the challenges of preserving perishable cargo such as immunization materials, meat, and dairy products. “This innovation allows businesses to operate seamlessly, reduces losses, and increases cargo-related revenue at MMA2,” Jibodu explained.
In addition to technological advancements, BASL has enhanced passenger experience by upgrading Wi-Fi services across key areas of the terminal, including the departure hall and food court.
Jibodu noted that these improvements contribute to MMA2’s impressive operational metrics, such as a 74% average on-time departure rate in 2024, with a target of achieving 85–90% in the near future.
The media houses commended BASL for its commitment to excellence, innovation, and efficiency.
They praised the terminal as a testament to successful private-sector management of public infrastructure in Nigeria.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), BASL is collaborating with the NSIA-LUTH Cancer Center to raise breast cancer awareness among women, alongside other community-focused initiatives.
The media tours have not only strengthened BASL’s relationship with the press but also underscored the company’s dedication to maintaining MMA2 as a world-class terminal.
With plans to expand its services and address emerging passenger needs, BASL is set to reinforce its position as a leader in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
The second phase of the media tours is scheduled for early 2025.
