Staffs of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Port Harcourt Regional Office have expressed excitement and satisfaction as the long-abandoned office accommodation has been successfully completed and commissioned.
The regional office building, which had been abandoned for over two decades, was officially commissioned on Friday by the Acting Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
According to a press statement released by the management, the project, which began in 2002 and had remained at carcass level for years, was completed and delivered within less than a year under Capt. Najomo’s leadership.
In his remarks during the commissioning ceremony, the Acting DGCA underscored the strategic importance of Port Harcourt as a hub for energy, commerce, and tourism. He stated that the establishment of world-class infrastructure in the region is essential to support and elevate Nigeria’s aviation sector.
“Port Harcourt serves as a vital regional hub, overseeing operations at key airports and airstrips across the region, including Port Harcourt, Bayelsa, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Asaba, Anambra, Imo, Calabar, and Warri. It is our commitment to provide enabling infrastructure to support these critical operations,” Capt. Najomo said.
While celebrating this milestone, Capt. Najomo also announced plans to complete the Kano Regional Office within weeks and revealed intentions to build a befitting regional office in Enugu.
“As we celebrate this achievement, I urge all stakeholders to continue to work with us in shaping the future of aviation in Nigeria. Together, we will soar higher and make our skies safer and more efficient for all users,” he added.
The commissioning of the Port Harcourt Regional Office building represents a significant milestone for the NCAA and highlights Capt. Najomo’s decisive leadership in completing the long-delayed project.
In his remarks, Mr. Oladipo Adebisi Titus, the Regional Manager of the NCAA Port Harcourt Regional Office, applauded the completion of the project after over 20 years of stagnation.
“For years, it appeared as though this project would never be achieved. Different managements began but abandoned it. As a regulatory body in the aviation industry, restoring staff confidence and morale requires a properly equipped office complex with necessary facilities,” Mr. Titus stated.
He further noted that NCAA staff had, in the past, faced taunts during inspections regarding their office conditions. The completion of this modern office space, he said, will now put such issues to rest while fostering a positive work environment.
“This new office, with its excellent ambience and modern facilities, will undoubtedly boost staff morale and enhance productivity. Our team is excited and proud to have a conducive workspace that reflects the standards we uphold,” Mr. Titus concluded.
The successful delivery of the Port Harcourt Regional Office under Capt. Najomo’s tenure reflects the NCAA’s renewed focus on infrastructure development and operational efficiency in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
