The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) is mourning the tragic loss of its Vice President and several others in a helicopter crash that occurred offshore on October 24, 2024.
The pilot, a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience, was on board at the time of the incident, which has left the aviation community in shock.
In a statement released by NAAPE National President Abednego Galadima, the organization expressed profound sadness over the accident, emphasising the devastating impact it has on both the union and the wider aviation industry. “The loss of our Vice President is a heartbreaking blow to our association and the aviation community at large,” Galadima stated.
The statement also underscored the critical need for optimal operating conditions within the aviation sector. “We have always maintained that the operating conditions in the aviation industry must be optimal for all professionals,” Galadima said, noting that “there is no parking space up there.”
In light of the tragedy, NAAPE called on the government and aviation stakeholders to strive for zero accidents in all operations, given the catastrophic nature of air crashes. The association urged that all measures be taken to enhance safety standards across the industry.
Additionally, NAAPE called for a comprehensive investigation into the causes of the helicopter crash. “We urge all relevant agencies to ensure no stone is left unturned in uncovering the immediate and remote causes of this tragic event,” Galadima emphasized.
He added that any necessary measures should be implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
As the investigation unfolds, NAAPE extended its prayers and condolences to the families of those affected by the crash. “Our thoughts are with all the families whose loved ones were on board,” the statement concluded.
The aviation community now awaits further updates as efforts to determine the cause of the crash and improve safety protocols continue
