Sports Crucial to Physical, Mental Well-being in Organisation – Kuku

Date:

The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has emphasized that workplace sports serve as a vital tool in promoting healthy competition, teamwork, and collaboration. She highlighted this during her speech at the grand finale of the 10th FAAN Inter-directorate Sports Competition, which concluded yesterday in Lagos.

The sports event featured several activities, including football, lawn tennis, table tennis, scrabble, chess, swimming, badminton, and draughts. In addition to these, there were side attractions like taekwondo and cultural displays.

Kuku stressed that the competition symbolized more than athletic prowess, representing the spirit of teamwork, camaraderie, and well-being. “We recognize that a healthy and happy workforce is the backbone of our organisation’s success,” she remarked. She reiterated that employee welfare would always remain a top priority, noting that the competition allowed staff to relax, recharge, and develop both physically and mentally.

The event saw various directorates come together in a display of unity. Kuku expressed gratitude to the organizing committee and participants, adding, “As we celebrate, let us remember that every directorate is a champion in its own right. Every staff member is valued and appreciated, and every moment of camaraderie strengthens our FAAN family.”

Dr. Luqman Emiola, FAAN’s Director of Human Resources and Administration, also spoke at the event, underlining that the essence of the competition transcended winning or losing. He noted that it was about fostering unity, teamwork, and a healthy work environment, remarking that true sportsmanship also meant knowing how to accept defeat gracefully.

In the final football match, the Directorate of Aviation Security Services (DASS) triumphed over the Managing Director/Directorate of Legal Services (MD/DLS) with a 5-4 victory after a penalty shootout. The match had ended in a 2-2 draw in regular time. Meanwhile, the Directorate of Airport Operations (DAO) secured third place by defeating the Directorate of Engineering Services (DES) 6-5, also after penalties, with the game tied 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Kuku noted that the competition celebrated perseverance, teamwork, and excellence, all of which are vital aspects of FAAN’s organizational strength.
