Keyamo Unveils New Measures to Improve Nigerian Airports

Date:

The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, has announced a series of transformative initiatives aimed at improving service delivery and maintaining environmental cleanliness across Nigerian airports. The measures, unveiled in a recent press release, are designed to enhance the traveling experience while ensuring accountability in airport management.

Special Airport Marshals to Boost Oversight

In a groundbreaking move, Mr. Keyamo introduced the appointment of voluntary Special Airport Marshals to independently monitor airport operations. These Marshals, drawn from journalists, NGOs, and state representatives, will carry out unscheduled visits to assess staff conduct, hygiene, and the general state of airport facilities.

Reporting directly to the Minister, the Marshals will provide an additional layer of supervision, complementing official reports from Airport Managers. This initiative aims to ensure that funds allocated for airport maintenance are used effectively.

Minister to Lead Surprise Inspections

To lead by example, the Minister will personally undertake unscheduled monthly inspections of airports nationwide. Accompanied by key officials, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, FAAN executives, and legislative committee members, Mr. Keyamo will evaluate airport operations and interact with staff to address challenges and promote professionalism.

During these visits, the Minister will actively participate in airport activities, demonstrating a hands-on leadership approach to inspire better service delivery.

Stakeholder Consultations Underway

In the coming weeks, consultations with stakeholders will guide the appointment of suitable individuals for the Special Airport Marshal roles. The Minister assured that the selection process would be transparent, with the names of appointees publicly announced.

The initiatives mark a new chapter in the development of Nigeria’s aviation sector, setting the stage for improved service delivery and operational excellence.
