NSIB Probes Abuja–Kaduna Train Derailment

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into Tuesday’s derailment of a Kaduna-bound passenger train, which occurred around 11:09 a.m. at KM 49, between Kubwa and Asham stations.

According to the Bureau, six passengers sustained injuries in the incident, with no fatalities reported. A specialised team of investigators has been dispatched to the scene to collect evidence, engage relevant stakeholders, and determine the causes of the accident.

Director General of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., expressed sympathy to those injured, assuring the public of a transparent inquiry aimed at preventing future occurrences.

“We deeply sympathise with all who sustained injuries. The Bureau has deployed investigators to the site to ensure the root cause of this derailment is uncovered. Our commitment is to ensure safer rail transport for Nigerians through a transparent and independent investigation,” Badeh stated.

The NSIB emphasised that the ongoing probe would identify both direct and underlying factors responsible for the derailment and would culminate in safety recommendations to enhance rail operations nationwide.
