A 14-year-old boy’s desperate attempt to stow away on a flight at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport has sparked renewed concerns over child safety and security breaches within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The teenager, identified as Eke Miracle, was intercepted by officers of the Airport Police Command after he was discovered on the tarmac, allegedly attempting to hide beneath an aircraft.
Authorities described the act as both dangerous and unlawful, noting that the minor had accessed a restricted zone without authorization, violating FAAN regulations designed to protect lives and ensure operational safety.
Police officials said the boy was handled with care, taken into protective custody, and provided necessary welfare support.
His parents were notified immediately, and all procedures involving the minor were conducted in their presence.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ogunbode Olufunke, emphasized the dual importance of enforcing security laws while protecting the rights and welfare of minors.
She called on parents and guardians to be more vigilant, warning that unsupervised access to high-risk environments like airports could have tragic consequences.
The case, authorities confirmed, will be treated under juvenile justice laws, with appropriate legal steps to follow.
